Philip Kumah
(b. 1990) is a contemporary Ghanaian artist based in Accra, Ghana. He earned degrees in Painting and Sculpture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. His work centers on themes of identity, memory, the environment, and cultural heritage, which he explores through abstract portraits and textile compositions.
Kumah is known for his innovative style, using reclaimed materials and African fabrics to create distinctive, pixel-like compositions. His works tell stories of resistance and memory and serve as commentary on contemporary issues related to pollution in African countries and climate change.
Philip Kumah’s works have been exhibited both in Ghana and internationally, including at the Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra and at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice & Gallery in New York.
